Elara Cardigan

$10.00

The Elara Cardigan is a fuzzy oversized cardigan with a simple cable motif, saddle shoulder construction and lateral braid details. The fuzzy yarn was intentionally selected to give the cables a soft and less defined appearance. The cardigan is worked top down, where the body is worked flat and the sleeves are worked in the round. Pockets are also included for an additional cozy touch.

This pattern is recommended for intermediate knitters or advanced beginners looking to learn some new techniques.

The green sample pictured is a size 2 knit with Drops Brushed Alpaca Silk held double stranded. The blue sample is a size 2 knit with one strand of Drops Melody. Emily is 5’1” with a 34” bust and normally wears a size 2.

CONSTRUCTION OVERVIEW

First, the saddle for each shoulder is worked and its stitches are placed on hold. Stitches are then picked up along the side of each saddle with stitches casted on in between to form the back. Short rows are then worked to shape the shoulders and the back is worked to the bottom of the armholes with armhole shaping. Stitches are picked up on the other side of the saddles for the front left and right separately. Short rows are again used to shape the shoulders and increases are worked to shape the front neckline. The front left and right are then worked to the bottom of the armholes and joined with the back to form the body. The body is then finished in half-twisted rib. The sleeves are worked top down in the round and finished with decreases to create a balloon sleeve and half-twisted rib cuffs. The ribbing and collar are then worked in half-twisted rib. Pockets for both sides of the cardigan are then knit and attached with a mattress stitch.
