Joanna Tank
The Joanna Tank is a fitted tank top with a striking crossover mock V-neck. It's worked top down with short rows and optional waist shaping along the body. The armhole edges and collar are both worked in double knitting for a clean refined look. Additionally, this pattern contains optional horizontal (fixed sizing) and custom vertical bust darts.
This pattern is recommended for intermediate knitters.
The sample pictured is a size 2 with waist shaping and no bust darts. Emily is 5’1” with a 34” bust and normally wears a size 2.

CONSTRUCTION OVERVIEW
The tank top is worked top down, first flat, then in the round. The back is worked flat with short rows to shape the shoulders and the front is picked up from the cast-on edge. After working to the armhole depth, the body is joined in the round and can then be worked with optional bust darts (horizontal and vertical) and waist shaping. The body is then finished in 1x1 half-twisted rib. The armholes and collar are then worked in double knitting with decreases on the collar for a snug fit. The sides of the collar are then sewn to the bottom of the V-neck using a mattress stitch.
SIZING
The Joanna tank is designed to be worn with approximately 0-2 in [0-5 cm] of negative ease, meaning the circumference of the tank is approximately 0-2 in [0-5 cm] smaller than your bust. For this pattern, I recommend choosing a size based on your upper chest circumference (the circumference at your underarm) to ensure you have a snug fit and the edges of the tank line up with your shoulders.

YARN
(675, 780, 820) [940, 1000, 1100] (1175, 1225, 1325, 1400) yards [(620, 715, 750) [860, 915, 1005] (1075, 1120, 1210, 1280) meters] of fingering weight yarn
For this pattern, I recommend using yarn that has elasticity and memory (like a wool or wool blend) to ensure the collar can go over your head but also maintain its shape.
