Zephyr Pullover

$10.00

The Zephyr Pullover is a drapey top-down compound raglan featuring a unique half-twisted rib pattern. It has two trumpet long-sleeve styles (dramatic and slim) and a short sleeve option.  Both long sleeve styles have slits at the end of the sleeve on the side where the thumbs are located. The pullover also has three body length options, cropped, full and asymmetric. The full-length option has side slits for a relaxed fit while the asymmetric option has waist shaping and a single slit on the longer side of the body. Additionally, the pullover can be knit with either one strand of mohair for a semi-sheer effect or two strands for a more opaque finish.

This pattern is recommended for intermediate knitters.

The beige sample is a size 2 with the slim sleeve fit and full body length. The variegated sample is a size 2 with the short sleeve fit and asymmetric body finish. Keriann’s pink sample is a size 2 with the dramatic sleeve and cropped body length.

CONSTRUCTION OVERVIEW

The Zephyr Pullover is a top-down compound raglan. First, the collar is casted on in the round and worked. Then, the stitch pattern is established and short rows are worked to shape the neckline. Increases are then worked on the yoke to create the compound raglan, where the front, back and sleeves are worked at different increase rates. The stitches for the sleeves are then placed on hold and the body is completed in one of the three body length options (cropped, full, and asymmetric). The sleeve stitches are then placed back on the needles and stitches are picked up at the underarm. The rest of the sleeve is then worked top-down in one of three sleeve fit options (slim, dramatic and short sleeve), where the long sleeve versions are worked with increases and slits to create the trumpet sleeve effect.

SIZING

The Zephyr Pullover is designed to be worn with approximately 2-4 in [5-10 cm] of positive ease, meaning the circumference of the pullover is approximately 2-4 in [5-10 cm] larger than your bust.

YARN

For the single stranded, full length with dramatic sleeves, you will need approximately (840, 900, 1000) [1100, 1150, 1240] (1340, 1440, 1555, 1625) yards [(768, 823, 914) [1006, 1052, 1134] (1225, 1317, 1422, 1486) meters] of mohair or lace weight yarn

For the single stranded, cropped length with dramatic sleeves, you will need approximately (750, 810, 925) [1000, 1050, 1120] (1200, 1285, 1310, 1400) yards [(677, 741, 846) [914, 960, 1024] (1097, 1175, 1198, 1280) meters] of mohair or lace weight yarn

For the single stranded, asymmetric hem with dramatic sleeves, you will need approximately (730, 820, 920) [1020, 1080, 1200] (1310, 1440, 1490, 1520) yards [(668, 750, 841) [933, 988, 1097] (1198, 1317, 1362, 1390) meters] of mohair or lace weight yarn

The single stranded slim sleeve version uses about 55-65 yards [50-59 meters] less yarn than the dramatic sleeve version. The single stranded short sleeve version uses about (310, 350, 360) [390, 420, 440] (450, 470, 510, 550) yards [(384, 430, 503) [558, 594, 668] (741, 823, 869, 896) meters] less yarn than the dramatic sleeve version.

For the double stranded version, you will need double the yardage of the single stranded version.

Yarn choice for this design is particularly important as the transparency and drape can vary drastically depending on the fiber composition.

NEEDLES

US size 7 [4.5 mm] circular needles 24, 32 or 40 in [60, 80 or 100 cm]

US size 6 [4 mm] circular needles 24, 32 or 40 in [60, 80 or 100 cm]

Due to the delicate nature of this fabric, it is recommended to use small circular needles for the sleeve and not use magic loop. Magic loop can cause a ladder to occur at the place where the stitches were split.
